Who's doing it in the Pacific Northwest?

Status of No-Smoking Rules among Housing Authorities
in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska

Background:
A Regional Housing Survey was conducted in Fall 2008 with the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (PNRC-NAHRO), a group of executives from Housing Authorities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska. The survey was designed to capture the current status of no-smoking rules among this group, to assess trends and to identify those who would like support from local public health partners in adopting no-smoking policies.

Results
Of the 85 PNRC member agencies, 33 (38.8%) completed the online survey between 10/13/08 and 11/10/08.  This included twenty agencies in Washington, ten in Oregon, three in Idaho, and one in Alaska, representing a total of 42,112 residential units.

Of the 33 respondents, 63.6% had adopted no-smoking rules on at one least property.

The summary below was published in the February 2009 edition of the PNRC Regional Council News.
