chownpellaAn increasing number of condo associations are creating safe, smokefree environments everywhere inside (including inside the residential units) and outside on the property:

Avenue Lofts - 1400 NW Irving St, Portland, OR 97209
Bylaw Amendment (1/11) - No smoking allowed in all unit interiors, common elements and limited common elements, within the condominium.

Chown Pella Lofts - 416 NW 13th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209
Member approved Declaration Amendment (3/08) - No-smoking anywhere on the Condominium property, including but not limited to all residential and commercial condominium units, on decks and patios, in the parking lot and parking garages, all terraces of units and in all common element areas.

Other condomimiums have made a great start in creating smokefree environments*.

Board Resolution (7/08) - No-smoking in all "common area or common elements" including lobby area and hallways, laundry room, storage area, garage, outdoor courtyard, unit balconies, building breezeways, stair wells and the association room.

Nine Three Seven Condominiums - 937 NW Glisan, Portland, OR 97209
Board Resolution (7/11) - No-smoking in common elements (includes residential corridors, stairwells, egress corridors, lobby, mail room, elevators, recycle area, loading zone, and parking garage), and limited common elements (includes patios and balconies) as well as within 25 feet of any common entry or exit.

*These policies prohibit smoking in a wide variety of spaces, but continue to allow smoking inside the units. The only way to effectively protect owners and residents from the dangers of drifting secondhand smoke is to implement a smokefree policy, both inside and out.
